Tigers Stand Eighth After Landfall Tradition Opening Round

WILMINGTON, N.C. - - The Mizzou Men's Golf team is in a tie for eighth place after posting a 310 in the first round of the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. Tiger senior John Kelly led the team in the opening round, firing two-over-par 74 and stands in a tie for eighth place individually.

Kelly, who started on the back nine, opened his round with birdies on three of the first six holes he played and carded a two-under-par 34 on his first nine holes, before running into trouble on his way to a 40 on his second nine.

Sophomore Peter Malnati rebounded from a 41 on his first nine holes to card an even-par 36 on the second nine. He finished with a 77 on the day, which put him in a tie for 25th spot. Redshirt freshman Bud Reynolds sits in a tie for 36th place after a 79 on the first day of play.

Seniors Trent Twaddle and Shawn Jasper each carded rounds of 80 on Friday and are among those tied for 42nd place with two rounds to play.

Tulsa leads the team standings after carding a 295 on Friday. The Tigers are one shot behind seventh-place Xavier and just five shots out of the top five.

Play continues at the Country Club of Landfall with round two on Saturday and the final round scheduled for Sunday.
