Missouri Athletics Contributes to Cause

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri Department of Athletics raised over $2,596 during the month of October in support of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Through a variety of efforts, including a Mizzou Women's Connection wine tasting social and Passionately Pink Day, the athletics department contributed to a cause effecting thousands of individuals around the world during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Mizzou Women's Connection hosted a wine tasting social at Village Wine and Cheese in downtown Columbia, Mo., Oct. 3. Village Wine and Cheese donated the facility and a portion of the evening's appetizers, while wine was provided by Bommarito, a company carrying Big Tattoo wine. Altogether, $911 was raised during the event.

Passionately Pink day was held Oct. 6, with members of the athletics department dawning pink in recognition of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The Athletics Department raised $1,685 helping contribute to the over $32,000 collected by the Foundation in a single day.

For more than 20 years, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has been a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach programs. Working through a network of U.S. and international Affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure®, the Komen Foundation is fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by funding research grants and supporting education, screening and treatment projects in communities around the world.
