Tigers Win Nine Matches on Second Day of Mizzou Mock Duals

The University of Missouri women's tennis team completed the second day of action at the Mizzou Mock Duals Saturday, winning nine of 14 matches.

In doubles action, the Tiger duo of Chrissy Svetlic and Charlotte Bellis went 2-0 on the day, defeating Illinois State's Jeanelle Stines and Matea Simovic, 8-6, in their first match, and Iowa State's Eve Soriano and Danielle Uscinski, 8-5 in their second. The Tiger duo of Katelyn McKenzie and Raquel Wagner went 1-1 on the day, defeating Iowa State's Jill Palen and Kara Hickey, 9-7, and falling to Illinois State's Katri Miller and Veronique Parke-Bedard, 8-6. The Mizzou pair of Amanda Pratzel and Erika Josbena also went 1-1, defeating Iowa State's Chrissy DeRouin and Alyssa Palen, 8-4, while falling to Illinois State's Carolyne Parent and Julia Zubkova, 9-8 (11-9).

The Tigers won five of the eight singles matches played on Saturday. Pratzel finished off Iowa State's Chrissy DeRouin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. McKenzie defeated ISU's Alyssa Palen, 6-3, 6-3. Svetlic split the first two sets against Alyssa's sister, Jill Palen, 6-4, 2-6, and went on to win the 10 point tie-break in place of a third set, 10-7. Bellis also split her first two sets, going 6-1, 3-6, against ISU's Soriano. Bellis went on to win the tiebreak, 10-7, to win the match. Wagner defeated Iowa State's Dora Losonczy, 6-0, 6-1, to give the Tigers their fifth singles win.

Josbena lost to ISU's Hickey, 6-2, 7-5, Wagner lost to ISU's Caitlin Loprinzi, 6-4, 2-6, (10-6) and MU's Kaitlin Dunham fell to ISU's Uscinski, 6-3, 6-3.

Play will resume at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Green Tennis Center; with one round of doubles action and one round of singles play. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
