Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team had a strong first day of action at the Mizzou Mock Duals Friday in Columbia. The Tigers won nine of 13 matches, including five of seven singles matches.
The Mizzou Duo of Raquel Wagner and Katelyn McKenzie won both of their matches on the first day, They defeated Saint Louis' Ana Renda and Amanda Hellberg, 8-5, and then defeated Iowa State's Alyssa Palen and Chrissy DeRouin, 8-3. Mizzou's two other doubles teams, Amanda Pratzel and Erika Josbena, and Chrissy Svetlic and Kaitlin Dunham, went 1-1 on the day.
Wagner and McKenzie both had successful days on the singles courts, as well. Wagner won her match against Illinois State's Caroline Parent, 6-3, 6-4. Wagner is now 8-2 in the fall. McKenzie defeated Illinois State's Jeanelle Stines, 6-2, 6-3. She also defeated Iowa State's Dora Losonczy, 8-0. Mizzou's Charlotte Bellis and Chrissy Svetlic won their singles matches against Illinois State opponents. Pratzel and Josbena both lost their singles matches against Redbird players in three sets.
Play will continue Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia. There will again be two rounds of doubles play in the morning and one round of singles action in the afternoon. Admission to the event is free and the public is welcome to attend.
