Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team hosts the Mizzou Mock Duals Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia. The Tigers will welcome players from Illinois State, Iowa State and Saint Louis to the hidden-dual format event. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
Action will start Friday morning at 9 a.m. (CT) with two rounds of doubles play. After the second round of doubles action, there will be a lunch break and singles play will start at 2:30 p.m. (CT). The same time schedule will apply for Saturday. On Sunday, there will be one doubles round and one singles round.
The hidden-dual format tournament will include players from Illinois State, Iowa State and Saint Louis. The Mizzou Mock Duals is an individual event, with individual scores. There will be no team scores for this event.
The Teams
Mizzou
The Tigers are entering their third tournament of the fall. They started the 2006-07 season at the Billiken Fall Classic in St. Louis, Mo. Sept. 8-10. Several Mizzou players performed well in the tournament. The doubles team of Amanda Pratzel and Erika Josbena won the Doubles Championship, Chrissy Svetlic won the B Singles Draw Championship and Kaitlin Dunham won the D Singles Draw Championship. In the Minnesota Invitational, Sept. 15-17, Pratzel and Josbena won their second tournament of the fall and improved to 8-0 after their first two tournaments. Mizzou's Raquel Wagner won the Minnesota Singles Flight Championship. The Tigers then participated in the K-State Mock Duals, Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 on the campus of Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. The Tigers competed against players from Kansas State, Tulsa and Arkansas in the hidden-dual format tournament.
Saint Louis
The Billikens are entering the Mizzou Mock Duals after completing two tournaments and one dual match so far this fall. They hosted the Billiken Fall Classic on Sept. 8-10. Saint Louis senior Amanda Hellberg won the A Singles Draw Championship, defeating Mizzou's Pratzel in the Championship. The Billikens then competed in the Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., on Sept. 16 and 17. Hellberg won all three of her singles matches in the hidden-dual format event. Katerina Lozanova went 1-1 in the No. 2 spot. In their last outing, the BIllikens defeated McKendree, 6-1, in their only dual match of the fall. At No. 1 singles, Hellberg won her match, 6-0, 6-0, to improve to 7-0 in the fall.
Illinois State
The Redbirds also opened their season at the Billiken Fall Classic in St. Louis. In the A Singles Draw, ISU's Veronique Parke-Bedard advanced to the Consolation Final before losing in two sets. The Redbirds' other singles player in the A Draw, Katri Miller, lost in the main draw. The Redbirds then joined Saint Louis at the Spartan Invitational. ISU"s Julia Zubkouva had two singles wins on the weekend. Illinois State is coming off the Missouri Valley Invitational, where they competed against teams in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Iowa State
The Mizzou Mock Duals will be the Cyclones' third tournament of the fall. In their first outing, they traveled south to Des Moines, Iowa, to participate in the Lloyd Stokstad Invitational, Sept. 15-17. The Cyclone duo of Jill Palen and Kara Hickey won the Doubles Championship, while Alyssa Palen won the flight B Championship. The Cyclones are coming off the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Northwestern University on Oct. 6-8. In singles play, Columbia, Mo., native Kara Hickey defeated Illinois-Chicago's Callan Smith, 6-2, 6-1.
