Cedar Falls, Iowa - Competing in their second dual of the day, the No. 9 Missouri Tigers rebounded from a morning loss to No. 18 Arizona State by defeating the Kent State Flashes, 22-15, in the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Finishing off Missouri's second three-bout win streak, redshirt freshman Raymond Jordan (New Bern, N.C.) upset No. 14 Alex Camargo to put the match out of reach.
Trading shots throughout the first three minutes, neither wrestler was able to get a takedown in the first period, but Jordan broke the scoreless tie with an escape to open the second two-minute span. Camargo answered with an escape of his own to begin the third, but Jordan's quickness enabled him to score two points on a takedown and get a 3-2 upset in the second meeting between the two wrestlers this season. Camargo defeated Jordan 11-4 at the Southern Scuffle Dec. 29.
Setting up Jordan's clinching victory, juniors Matt Pell (Luxemburg, Wis.) and Ben Askren (Hartland, Wis.) improved their records to 21-1 and 28-0, respectively, beating their opponents by 29 combined points. Pell, ranked No. 4 in the country at 165 pounds, racked up 10 points in the first period and kept the pressure on Jason McGee to get a 21-7 major decision. Adding to Missouri's bonus points, Askren, the No. 1 competitor at 174 pounds, followed his teammate's performance with a technical fall in 5:32 over Aaron Miller to make the score 19-6.
Picking up his second victory of the day at 133 pounds, No. 16 Tyler McCormick (Leawood, Kan.) stayed in control throughout his bout against Drew Opfer, taking his opponent down four times and racking up 1:51 of riding time in a 10-2 major decision. Following his sophomore teammate's victory, redshirt freshman Marcus Hoehn (Farmington, Mo.) was able to get his third victory in as many starts this season. A pair of single-leg attacks proved to be the difference for Hoehn, who decisioned Drew Lashaway 8-2.
No. 17 Josh Wagner, a sophomore from Milton, Wis., followed up a pin against Arizona State in the morning dual with another impressive victory, beating No. 20 Jason Bake, 9-3. Quickly becoming known for his ability to put opponents on their back, Wagner scored three points on a first-period nearfall and scored an extra point with 1:51 of riding time.
