Columbia, Mo. - Taking on Jefferson County College in the first of three fall games at University Field, the Tigers notched 10 runs on 15 hits through a complete seven innings to win, 10-2, over the Vikings.
Junior Amy Henke (Florissant, Mo.) managed Missouri's first run of the game, scoring on a third inning groundout to shortstop by senior Alli Kennewell (Eden Prairie, Minn.). Earlier in the inning, Henke beat the throw from short to reach first, stealing second and advancing to third on a groundout by junior Sarah Stringer (Auxvasse, Mo.). Henke stole two bases on the night and the Tiger team swiped six all together.
Junior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) twirled Missouri's first three innings of work, striking out three Vikings before being relieved by sophomore Megan Dennis (Liberty, Mo.). Dennis sat down three batters in her four innings in the circle.
The Tigers scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bowers crushed a standup double up the middle with no outs on the board, scoring on a two RBI single by junior Sara Simons (Kearney, Mo.). Junior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.), senior Alyson Tobyne (Gilbert, Ariz.) and senior Kathy Masterson (St. Louis, Mo.) all recorded hits in the inning.
Missouri plays Butler County next Saturday, Oct. 7, on University Field at a time to be determined. Once a time has been set, it will be announced on line.
