Manhattan, Kan. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team began play at the Kansas State Invitational Friday in Manhattan, Kan. The Tigers played Tulsa in singles and doubles action, and Arkansas in doubles play.

Missouri Head Coach Blake Starkey liked his team's effort in what he called the Tigers' toughest test so far this fall.

"We competed hard today. These teams were tough."

The bright spots from the Tigers came from two newcomers; Katilin Dunham and Raquel Wagner. Each won their singles matches against Tulsa. Wagner defeated Tulsa's Marta Marcinkowska, 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-5, while Dunham defeated Nora Kuruc, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In other singles action against Tulsa, Erika Josbena, Amanda Pratzel, Chrissy Svetlic, Charlotte Bellis and Katelyn McKenzie lost their matches.

In doubles play, the Tulsa duo of Kindsay Grimes and Carla Zabaleta handed Josbena and Pratzel their first loss of the fall, defeating the Mizzou duo by a score of 8-4. Josbena and Pratzel also lost to Arkansas' Ela Kaluder and Audrey Bordeleau, 8-2. Tiger duos Wagner and McKenzie and Dunham and Svetlic each lost two matches against Tulsa and Arkansas.

Play will resume Saturday morning at 9 a.m. (CT) when the Tigers face off against Kansas State in doubles action. Missouri will then take on Arkansas again in doubles play before finishing the day with seven singles matches against Kansas State.
