114 Counties In The Books

Sept. 22, 2006

On Thursday, Mizzou Director of Athletics Mike Alden, along with Director of Broadcast Operations Mike Kelly and Assistant Director of Media Relations Josh Murray completed an undertaking that began eight years ago. With his trip to Pemiscot County on Thursday, Alden has now made visits to all 114 counties in the state of Missouri.

The Tigers' staff members flew to Kennett, Mo., meeting up with Jerry Combs at the Kennett Airport, before making their way to Hayti High School in Pemiscot County. There, Alden and Kelly spoke to the Hayti football team, which was assembled in the Fieldhouse by Hayti High School Principal and Head Football Coach David Gilmore.

A luncheon at the Kennett Country Club with 10 members of the Kennett community followed. Alden, Kelly and Murray then made a stop to visit Judge Flake McHaney before returning to Kennett Airport to head back to Columbia.

Alden, with Kelly alongside for most of the trips, has now visited every county in Missouri. However, the Mizzou Statewide Outreach efforts are not over as Tiger staff members will continue to make visits to communities around the state.
