Tigers Complete First Day of Gopher Invitational

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team completed the first day of the Gopher Invitational Friday. The doubles teams of Amanda Pratzel and Erika Josbena and Chrissy Svetlic and Kaitlin Dunham advanced to the second round of the North bracket. In singles action, Svetlic advanced to the semifinals of the Gold singles bracket by earning two victories on the day.

In the North bracket, the tournament's top doubles bracket, the Mizzou duo of Pratzel and Josbena won their first round match against Gonzaga's Emily Anderson and Kendall Bates, 8-2. Svetlic and Dunham defeated the Wichita State duo of Egorova and Elkin, 9-7. The second round of doubles play begins at 9 a.m. Saturday.

In the Star bracket, newcomers Katelyn McKenzie and Raquel Wagner fell to Minnesota's Chiarelli and Sperling, 8-2. McKenzie and Wagner will compete in the consolation bracket.

In the Maroon singles bracket, the tournament's top singles draw, Pratzel fell to the tournament's No. 2 seed, Nebraska's Imke Reimers, 6-1, 6-1. Also in the Maroon bracket, Josbena lost to No. 4 seed Jacqueline Lee of Iowa, 6-1, 6-1. Both Pratzel and Josbena lost their next matches in the consolation bracket.

In the Gold singles bracket, Tiger junior Chrissy Svetlic advanced to Saturday's semifinal match by defeating Nebraska's Marianne Cicmanec, 6-2, 7-5, and Gonzaga's Emily Anderson, 6-7 (5), 6-4, (10-7). Svetlic will face Minnesota's Tijana Koprivica in the semifinals. Also in the Gold bracket, Missouri's Charlotte Bellis lost her first match, but then earned a 6-4, 2-6, (10-6) victory against Air Force's Kelly Morgan in the consolation bracket. Bellis will continue in the consolation bracket Saturday against Minnesota's Alex Seaton.

In the Minnesota singles bracket, Wagner advanced to the semifinals by defeating Air Force's Erlyn Rudico in the first round and Gonzaga's Sydney Lederhouse in the second round. In other Minnesota singles bracket action, McKenzie advanced in the consolation bracket after losing her first round match up against Iowa's Kelcie Klockenga. Tiger freshman Kaitlin Dunham lost her first round match in the bracket, and also lost her match in the consolation bracket.

The action resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
