Box Score

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Missouri softball team (26-26) survived elimination after holding off 16th-ranked and fourth-seeded Texas A&M (33-17), 5-3, in their fourth game of the Big 12 Championships at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. With the win, the Tigers advance in bracket play and will battle with No. 21 Oklahoma (No. 5 seed) at 7 p.m. (CST) tonight.

Missouri rightfielder Janessa Roening (Port Angeles, Wash.) scored first for the Tigers. After drawing four balls off right-handed ace Amanda Scarborough in the first inning, Roening reached second on a passed ball and advanced to third on redshirt sophomore Micaela Minner's (Sanger, Texas) infield single. Next at the plate, starting pitcher's Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) single to right center drove in Roening for her 27th RBI of the season.

Bruck threw a three pitch inning in the bottom of the third and returned to the plate in the top of the fourth scoring Missouri's second run of the game. 6-for-11 against the Aggies this season, Bruck singled to left field, stole second, advanced to third on sophomore designated player Amanda Renth's groundout to second and scored on a squeeze play. With shortstop Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) at the plate, the freshman laid down a sac bunt to reach first on a fielder's choice while Bruck slid home ahead of the throw from first baseman Megan Gibson to catcher Patti Wunderlich.

The Aggies cut Missouri's lead in half scoring one run on one hit in the bottom of the fourth. Shortstop Holly Ridley hit a full count RBI single to centerfield to score Gibson from second base.

Sophomore second baseman Sarah Stringer (Auxvasse, Mo.) added to Missouri's lead scoring on a two-out single to centerfield by junior outfielder Leanne Bowers (Arnold, Mo.). Texas A&M tied things up in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs on two hits, but Missouri regained its lead in the seventh, scoring two runs on two hits. Earlier in the seventh, Minner led off and was hit by pitch, advancing to second on Bruck's third single of the game (Bruck was 3-for-3 at the plate). Renth's sacrifice bunt helped both runners advance and Allen's groundout to Scarborough drove in Minner while sophomore catcher Kathy Masterson's (St. Louis, Mo.) single drove in Bruck.

With the win, Missouri improves to 3-2 against the Aggies in Big 12 post-season play and will take on fifth-seeded Oklahoma in a 7 p.m. (CST) game tonight at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. Earlier in the season, the Tigers swept the Sooners in Norman, by scores of 8-6 and 9-6.
