Oklahoma City, Okla. - Playing its third game of the Big 12 Championships, the Missouri softball team (25-26) suffered a 2-0 loss to Midwest Ford Border Showdown opponent Kansas (32-24) at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. With the loss, the Tigers will be forced to play fourth-seeded Texas A&M in a 1:30 p.m. (CST) game Friday, May 12.
The Jayhawks took the early lead, scoring one run in the bottom of the first frame. Big 12 Player of the Year and Serena Settlemeir doubled to left field driving in leadoff batter Val Chapple, from second. Chapple started the game hitting a first pitch single down the right field line, advancing to second on a sac bunt by Stevie Crisosto.
Kansas scored one run on three hits in the fifth inning to take the two-run lead and eventual win.
Freshman Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) knocked Missouri's only hit of the game. Allen singled back to the pitcher in the fifth inning but was caught stealing for the third out of the inning.
Sophomore pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) fell to 23-20 on the season after forcing 15 groundouts and striking out two KU batters.
