April 30, 2006

Box Score

Columbia, Mo. - Playing their final home game of the season, the Missouri softball team (23-23, 7-9) swept Texas Tech (19-34, 4-13), after winning game two, 2-1, in front of 197 fans in attendance for senior day. The victory marked the 11th straight year in which Missouri secured a win on senior day and sixth complete home finale sweep in 11 years.

Tied at one after four-and-a-half innings, the Tigers pulled ahead on redshirt sophomore Micaela Minner's (Sanger, Texas) single to right field that drove in junior outfielder Leanne Bowers (Arnold, Mo.) from second. Earlier in the inning, Bowers knocked a one out single to reach first and advanced to second on a groundout to second base. Minner finished the day 3-for-3 with two RBI after being hit by pitch three times and drawing a walk in yesterday's afternoon game.

Recognized prior to the start of the game, seniors Janessa Roening (Port Angeles, Wash.) and Joanne Loethen (St. Thomas, Mo.) both played their final game on University Field. In her first at bat, Roening ripped a triple, her second of the season, and scored on a double to the left field corner by Minner.

Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) improved to 21-17 on the season after hurling seven complete innings and allowing only one run on five hits. The Tigers notched seven hits off Texas Tech ace Erin Crawford.

The Tigers will play their final two-game series of the regular season against Nebraska beginning Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. (CST) and concluding Sunday, May 7 at 1 p.m. (CST).
