COLUMBIA, Mo. - - No. 20 Mizzou moved to 2-0 at home by defeating Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 14-3 at Taylor Stadium on Friday night. Despite getting out-hit 11-7, the Tigers were able to score double digit runs for the second-straight game and have out-scored their opponents 32-8 in their two home games.
Missouri (7-4) got on the board quickly as the senior Zane Taylor, the games' second batter, tripled to drive in senior Trevor Helms, who drew a leadoff walk. Taylor, who finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, extended his hitting streak to 10 games with the first-inning triple. Mizzou added two more runs in the first and got its fourth run in the bottom of the third inning.
Leading 5-3 in the sixth, the Tigers exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, just as they done in the sixth inning in the home opener on Wednesday. MU scored the six runs on just two hits, one being a three-run double by junior John McKee. Missouri also had three walks and two hit batters in the inning.
McKee added a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to finish with four RBI for the second-consecutive game.
MU followed the six-run sixth inning with three runs in the seventh inning.
Junior Max Scherzer took the mound for the first time this season and struck out nine in five innings pitched. He allowed three runs on seven hits and walked one, improving to 3-0 on the year.
