COLLEGE STATION, Texas - - Mizzou recorded its first sweep of a three-game series this season and won its sixth-straight over Texas A&M with a 3-0 victory in the series finale on Sunday in College Station, Texas. With the win, the Tigers improve to 3-0 in the Big 12 Conference and are 13-7 overall.
It was the third shutout by Missouri this season and the first over a Big 12 opponent since an 8-0 win over Kansas last May.
Missouri got a run in the sixth inning, as senior Trevor Helms singled with two outs to drive in sophomore Brock Bond, who had reached on an error by the Aggie third baseman.
The Tigers took the 1-0 lead to the ninth inning before sophomore Jacob Priday connected for a two-run home run with two-outs in the top of the ninth to extend Mizzou's lead to three. The homer was the third of the season for Priday and his 12th of his career.
Freshman Rick Zagone took the victory in his first-career start. He allowed just two his in 5.1 scoreless innings of work and moved to 2-0 on the year.
Senior relievers Travis Wendte and Taylor Parker were also impressive coming out of the bullpen, able to shut down the Aggies in the final 3.2 innings of the game. Parker did not allow a hit and struck out two in pitching the eighth and ninth innings, recording his third save of the year
Sophomore Evan Frey led off the game with a base hit to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
The Tigers will travel to Normal, Ill. on Wednesday to face Illinois State at 4 p.m. before returning to Taylor Stadium for a three-game series next weekend against Kansas State.
