Mizzou Women's Tennis Falls to No. 61 Oklahoma 4-3 in Big 12 Opener

The University of Missouri women's tennis team was defeated by No. 61 Oklahoma 4-3 Monday at the Green Tennis Center.

Mizzou senior Hana Kraftova's victory over No. 73 Gabby Baker was not enough for the Tigers, who fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12.  After the match, Missouri Head Coach Blake Starkey said he was pleased with the effort of his team, "I'm very proud of the way we fought, because we played a very good team in Oklahoma tonight, and we had our chances."

At No. 1 singles, Mizzou's Kraftova upset the 73rd-ranked Baker in two sets 7-5, 6-4 to improve to 4-0 on the season.  At the No. 5 singles spot, Mizzou's Chrissy Svetlic defeated Oklahoma sophomore Chelsea Orr 7-6 (1), 4-6, 10-8.  Also winning her singles match for the Tigers was Amanda Pratzel, who defeated Brittany Baldy in two sets 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.  In doubles action, the duo of Amanda Pratzel/Erika Josbena defeated OU's Christi Baxley/Brittany Baldy 8-4.

At the No. 2 singles position, Mizzou freshman Val Dandik lost in three sets to Oklahoma's Irina Lykina 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.  Mizzou's Erika Josbena and Yelena Olshanskaya lost at the No. 3 and 4 positions respectively.  In the No. 1 doubles spot, OU's Gabby Baker/Irina Lykina defeated Mizzou's Hana Kraftova/Chrissy Svetlic 9-7.  And at No. 2 doubles, MU's duo of Yelena Olshanskaya/Val Dandik fell to Chelsea Orr/Monica Purice 9-8 (7-1).

The Tigers return to action Saturday, Feb. 18, when they host No. 36 Nebraska at noon.  All home matches are held at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia and are open to the public.
