Shreveport, La. - Setting a slew of individual career-highs, the Missouri gymnastics team posted a 195.575 to defeat Centenary and Air Force, who finished with a 190.100 and 175.050, respectively Friday night in Shreveport, La. Missouri (3-5) had first place finishers on all four events and was led by freshman Adrianne Perry, who set four career-highs on the night en route to her second-consecutive all-around title with a 39.150.
"We did a really, really good job tonight," said Missouri head coach Rob Drass. "Tonight felt more like a home meet. It was never a doubt if we'd hit, it was just a matter of how perfect the routines would be. We ended up pulling some routines out tonight. Good teams try to pull things out and great teams have the ability to pull it out."
Starting off on bars, senior Jodie Heinicka scored a 9.925 for the second consecutive week to tie the fourth-highest bars score in Tiger history and propel the squad to a 48.550 on the event. With the score, Heinicka finished first on the event. Freshman Alicia Hatcher notched a career-high with a 9.825 to finish in second place on the event while sophomore Katie Kluga also set a career-high after earning a 9.750, which was good enough for third place.
Always a strong event for Mizzou, the Tigers notched a season-high 49.175 on beam to tie the seventh highest event score in program history. Senior Lauren Schwartzman placed first on the event with a 9.950, the third highest beam score in Mizzou history, and junior Amanda Pezzullo tied for second with a 9.900 to set a new career-high. Also securing new career-highs were freshman Adrianne Perry and Kluga, who scored a 9.900 and 9.750, respectively.
Missouri continued its strong night with a 49.125 on floor, anchored by a 9.900 for Schwartzman to claim another first place finish. Setting another career-high, Perry recorded a 9.875 while junior Whitney Crater scored a 9.850 and sophomore Ashley Khederian earned a 9.800.
Finishing on vault, Perry posted her third career-high of the night with a 9.875 to finish first as the Tigers scored a 48.725 on the event. Crater earned second place with a 9.850 and senior Sarah Zigler had a 9.800 for third place.
"Beam and floor were strengths for us tonight," said Drass. "In our previous meets, bars and vault were our best events, so our team is starting to come together well. We had a very solid score that should keep us up near the top 10."
The Tigers next face Big 12 Conference rival Nebraska on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 2:00 p.m. CT in Lincoln, Neb. before returning home on Friday, Feb. 3 for a meet against Iowa State at 7:00 p.m. in the Hearnes Center.
