View Final Poll | Sign-Up for Academy
COLUMBIA, Mo.--The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced their final coaches' poll of the 2005 season last week. The Missouri (25-5) volleyball team finished the season eighth in the country according to the poll, up 12 spots from the team's previous best final ranking of 20th in 2002. Mizzou was a regional finalist for the first time in school history this season in the team's winningest season.
Three other Big 12 schools finished in the top 25 with national runner-up Nebraska ranked No. 2 in the poll. Texas was ranked No. 16 with Kansas State grabbing the No. 24 spot.
Missouri Finishes Sixth in the Country in Attendance
The Tigers also broke school records in attendance in 2005. With 40,052 fans attending the team's 15 home matches, Mizzou averaged 2,670 fans which placed sixth in the country according to the Wisconsin SID office. Missouri averaged a then-school record of 1,460 fans in 2004, placing 19th in the country. Missouri only trailed Hawaii (7,302 average), Nebraska (4,323), Minnesota (3,883), Wisconsin (3,758), and Washington (2,888) in the final fan tally.
Winter Tiger Academy Announced
Starting next Tuesday, January 3rd, the Missouri volleyball team in conjunction with Columbia Parks & Recreation will begin a unique instruction program for students in third through eighth grades, called the "Mizzou Volleyball Academy". For just $60 for third through fifth graders and $80 for sixth through eighth graders, students will receive expert instruction on the sport of volleyball from several college- and international-level coaches and players in eight 90-minute instruction periods, stretching over four weeks.
With the fee, students will receive a free t-shirt along with fun in the well organized, structured camp setting that allows the learning potential to be maximized.
Instruction will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. (third through fifth grades) and 6:30 to 8 p.m. (sixth through eighth grades), in the Hearnes Center starting January 3rd, running through January 31st. No session will be held on January 12.
