Mizzou senior women's golfer Denise Munzlinger was named the Big 12 Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for October, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Munzlinger finished in the top four of two of the Tigers' three tournaments last month.
The senior opened the month with a fourth-place finish at the Legends of Indiana Tournament in Franklin, Ind. She scored a final round 71 for a three-round total of 217 and led Missouri to a third place finish in that tournament. Munzlinger followed with a third-place finish at the Price's Give'm Five Tournament in Las Cruces N.M., where she matched her career best with a 54-hole score of 216. Included in the total was a second-round 69. Her third-place finished helped the Tigers to the tournament title. She closed the month with a 223 at the Las Vegas Shootout and finished 35th against competitors from nine ranked teams.
Munzlinger had a stroke average of 72.8 for nine rounds played in October. For the season, she is averaging 74.13 strokes per round, which leads the team and she has finished in top 10 in three of the five tournaments Missouri has participated in this fall.
This is the first Big 12 Golfer of the Month for Munzlinger and the first for an MU women's golfer since Maria Ohlsson earned the honor in February of 2004. Last season, Munzlinger was named an Honorable Mention All-American and is a two-time All-Big 12 First Team selection.
