Ali Gilmore's Gymnastics Journal

Nov. 14, 2005

Wow! What a busy week for Mizzou Gymnastics. Busy, yes; but it was fun. Monday at practice we had a little surprise visit from a judge, Emily. She was in the gym to take a look at some of our floor routines and to give us some pointers and constructive criticisms to work on. Emily was extremely helpful. From the looks of it, we are well on our way to a successful season.

On Wednesday some of the girls did exhibitions at Rockbridge Elementary. That was a lot of fun. Lisa, Bunny and Amanda were in the first group and Hatcher, Kelley and I were in the second group. We sure did get a kick out of those kindergarteners. I think we may have enjoyed them just as much as they enjoyed watching us. Kira talked to them about goal setting and why it's a good thing to have goals to attain. Then we showed them basic skills, and Kira worked our demonstration into her talk about how setting small goals at first can lead to achieving great things. The kids were awesome, and I think they were really excited about us being at their school.

Thursday in the gym, we had a beam intrasquad. Everyone did great and is looking really solid.

The bar intrasquad was on Friday. Even after a long week in the gym, the bar team looked strong; only a few minor mishaps. Everything seems to be coming together very well on this event. Friday was also the second to last team run in pre-season. It may not seem like much, but for all of us, it's pretty exciting. Liz Straatmann, a soon to be Tiger came for a visit on Friday as well. She watched practice and hung out with the girls.

Saturday was also really fun. It was the last home football game of the season against Baylor (which we won by the way, Go Tigers!) and we were introduced on the field! Other than the gloomy weather, it was a blast. While we were on the field a chant for "Flips!" was started, and after some quick decisions and okays by Rob and Paul, we flipped. I mean, how could we let our fellow tigers down, right? They wanted flips, so that's exactly what we gave them.

All in all, it was a great week. And with all that said, I'll leave you with one last comment...GO GET `EM TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
