RUTHER GLEN, Va. - - The Missouri men's golf team is in a three way tie for ninth place after the first two rounds of play in the Mattaponi Springs Shootout in Ruther Glen, Va. After playing two rounds on Monday, the field will play the third and final round on Tuesday at the Mattaponi Springs Golf Club.
In the morning round, junior Shawn Jasper led the Tigers with a one-under par round of 71, which included five birdies. Senior Chris Mabry turned in the best round for MU in the second 18 holes, carding a four-under par 68. Mabry made four birdies on the front nine and had a total of six in the second round on his way to the 68.
Mabry leads the Tigers after the first two rounds, with a 36-hole score of 143 (75-68), which places him in a tie for 16th individually.
Jasper is tied for 28th spot with a two-round total of 146 (71-75), one shot ahead of senior Ben Scott, who followed a 77 in the morning round with a one-under par 70 in round two, for a 36-hole total of 147, putting him in a tie for 33rd place.
Junior John Kelly is tied for 48th spot with a two-round score of 149 (76-73) and junior Michael Unger is in a tie for 57th spot with total of 151 (77-74).
Wake Forest leads the team competition with two rounds of 279 for a team 36-hole total of 558, which is 18-under par and eight shots ahead of second place Tulsa.
The final round of the Mattaponi Springs Shootout will be played on Tuesday. Next week, Mizzou will host the Missouri Bluffs Intercollegiate at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club in St. Charles, Mo. on Oct. 10-11.
