South Bend, Ind. - Competing in the 50th running of the Notre Dame Invitational, the Missouri men's and No. 24 women's cross country teams finished ninth on the 5K and 8K on-campus Notre Dame golf course, respectively. Seniors Valerie Lauver (Allen, Texas) and Tim Ross (Alto, Mich.) finished first for the Tigers, with Ross recording Missouri's best-ever time on an 8K course (24:01). Michigan's women and Arizona's men earned team titles.

"I was really pleased with the effort both teams but forth today," Head Coach Jared Wilmes said. "Tim had a really great race this afternoon and for him to set a personal best on this course, with this many top-ranked competitors is really exciting."

On the women's side, the Tigers were one of nine ranked teams competing for the Notre Dame Invitational title. Lauver was followed by sophomore Maddie Schueler (Louisville, Ky.) who earned her fifth top-30 showing since joining the MU program last season.

Missouri's men improved on their 13th place showing from the 2004 Notre Dame Invitational with Ross stepping up his 8K time of last year by 49 seconds. Teammate Matt Noonan (Baldwin City, Kan.), a senior on the men's team, finished 26th overall in 24:25. Together, Missouri's men held off No. 26 ranked Colorado State and No. 30 Butler.

The Tiger cross country team will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., Monday, Oct. 17, for the Pre-National Invitational meet. Missouri's women will run a 6K race beginning at 11 a.m. (CT), while the men are scheduled for a noon start.
