MU Women's Cross Country Team Earns Second Straight Title

Columbia, Mo. - Ranked 19th in the nation, the Missouri women's cross country program took its second consecutive team title of the season (81 points) after competing in the 5K run at the 12th annual Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. Hosted by Missouri Southern on the Missouri Southern Cross Country course, the Tiger men finished fourth in the 8K run with 158 points behind teams from Arkansas (23 points) Harding (119 points) and Tulsa (131).

Leading the pack on the women's side, senior Kristin Hansen (Milford, Iowa) finished fourth overall in 17:27.30 and was followed by sophomore Kasey Kimball (Eureka, Mo.) in 13th (17:53.00) and freshman Ellen Reis (Ryan, Iowa), 18th, in 18:05.00. Redshirt freshman Summer Owens (Dix, Iowa) finished 20th in 18:08.80, with sophomore Carolyn Rauen, freshman Angela Potrykus and junior Nicole Johnson rounding out the seven member squad. Together the Tiger harriers averaged a time of 17:58.56 on the course and edged out teams from Harding (87 points) and Missouri State (102 points). A total of 35 teams ran in today's race.

On the men's side, senior Chase Hall (Tulsa, Okla.) finished first for the Tigers and 19th overall (25:08.30), while senior Rem Moll (Tulsa, Okla.) took 29th (25:40.70) and junior Tipper O'Brien (Kirkwood, Mo.) finished 30th in 25:43.50. Senior Neville Miller (St. Louis, Mo.), freshman Mike Oldroyd (Wildwood, Mo.), sophomore Marcus Mayes (Sand Springs, Okla.) and freshman Bryce Malloy (Potosi, Mo.) helped combine for the Tiger's 158 point total.

"Chase ran a really good race today," Head Coach Jared Wilmes said. "It was a challenging course and he was running with 306 other competitors. He really had a good day and came on strong for Missouri."

The Tiger teams will have a one week respite before traveling to South Bend, Ind., for the 50th running of the Notre Dame Invitational Friday, Sept. 30, beginning at 3:15 p.m. (CT).
