LAFAYETTE, La. - The Missouri men's golf team struggled to a ninth-place finish Tuesday at the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club.
After storms canceled the second round of play, only two of the 15 teams could improve on their score from Monday. Mizzou had an aggregate four-player score of 309.
Junior Chris Mabry (Leawood, Kan. / Bishop Miege HS) and sophomore John Kelly (St. Louis, Mo. / Christian Brothers College HS) both carded final-round 75s to lead the Tigers. Mabry finished in a tie for 15th, and Kelly tied for 33rd. Junior Ben Scott (Lancashire, United Kingdom / St. Theodore's HS), who was leading the tournament by a stroke after the first round, faltered to an 81 and finished in a tie for 26th; sophomore Michael Unger (Edmond, Okla. / Edmond North HS) shot a 78 and is tied for 56; and sophomore Beau Crawford (La Plata, Mo. / Kirksville HS) tied for 73rd after an 81.
"Ben had a tough go of it today. He was going well, and then he had a nine on the ninth hole," Head Coach Mark Leroux. "He had a chance to win; one bad swing, and it was done. We played badly today, but we played well enough to keep us on track for a regional berth at the end of the season.
The Tigers have a week off before resuming play at the Stevinson Ranch Invitational in California, March 21-22.
