COLUMBIA, Mo. - - Mizzou won its sixth-straight game with a 9-0 victory in the opening game of a four-game series against North Dakota State on Friday at Taylor Stadium. It was the fourth shutout of the season for the Tigers and the third in the last four games.
Missouri has now outscored its opponents 202-56 on the season. It has scored at least 10 run in the each of the last six games and has recorded double-digits in run in 12 of its 18 games this season.
The Tigers scored three in the bottom of the first inning, getting an RBI single from junior Derek Chambers and a two-run single from freshman Jacob Priday.
Mizzou (14-4) added three runs in the fourth inning as junior Trevor Helms led off with a double and scored when junior Bryson LeBlanc tripled. LeBlanc would score on a single by junior James Boone. Boone extended his hitting streak to 10 games with the hit, which is the longest streak of the season for Missouri.
A run would cross the plate for the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth and they added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Sophomore Max Scherzer moved to 4-1 on the season won his fourth-straight start. He opened the game by striking out the first five NDSU batters to come to the plate. Scherzer matched his season-long outing, going seven innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 11.
Missouri and North Dakota State will play a doubleheader on Saturday with game one starting at 1 p.m. with game two starting thirty minutes after the conclusion of the first game. The final game of the series is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
