St. Louis, Mo. - University of Missouri athletic media relations associate Emily Gatewood was today named the national Wrestling/SID Publicist of the Year, by the National Wrestling Media Association. The awards were announced today at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, Mo., where Gatewood is serving as a media host for the second straight year for the event.
Gatewood has served at Mizzou for two years, and handles the varsity wrestling and softball teams for the athletic department. She has helped promote the athletes and team for the Big XII program, which has improved dramatically in recent seasons. With the NCAA Div. I Championships held in St. Louis, Mo. for the last two years, Gatewood has served as the host SID for the tournament, working with the NCAA and the St. Louis Sports Commission.
Prior to joining the staff at Missouri, Gatewood worked two years as a graduate assistant for sports information at the University of Nebraska, where she handled a number of sports and assisted at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships and the Big XII Track and Field Championships. She received her bachelors degree at Elon College in North Carolina, where she studied corporate and broadcast communications and her graduate degree at the Univ. of Nebraska.
