Brad Smith, Karen Bauer to Receive Campus Award

March 18, 2005

Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri student-athletes Brad Smith (football) and Karen Bauer (soccer) have been named recipients of the prestigious Unsung Heroes Campus Award, and they will be honored at an awards ceremony on April 15th, in conjunction with MU's Excellence Week.

The award, in its third year of existence, is given annually to 10 students on the Mizzou campus whose efforts and achievements may have gone unrecognized during the year. The recipients are selected based on the criteria of dedication, integrity, initiative, hard work, creativity, perseverance and character. The selection committee is composed of both faculty members and undergraduate students.

Smith (Youngstown, Ohio) is a junior quarterback for the Tiger football team, and while his on-field exploits are well-known, his involvement in the community and with numerous organizations has been exemplary. He'll be a senior this fall and will look to lead MU back to the winners' circle.

Bauer (Geneva, Ill.), is a senior defender on the Tiger soccer team, who finished up her collegiate eligibility last fall for Mizzou. An outstanding student, she was recently awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, and was a two-time Academic All-American.
