MU Softball Team Opens Season in Florida

Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri softball team will officially open its season in Tallahassee, Fla., at the Seminole Classic, Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 12. The two-day tournament hosted by Florida State will include No. 10 Florida State, Missouri and Nicholls State and will be held at the Seminole Softball Complex.

The Tigers are slated to begin action, Friday at 11 a.m. (CT) against Nicholls State followed with a 4 p.m., (CT) game against the hometown Seminoles. Saturday's competition will include another two-game series for Missouri as they take on Nicholls State at 1:30 p.m., (CT) and Florida State again at 4 p.m. (CT). All four of Missouri's games can be viewed live on Gametracker and the 4 p.m. Friday afternoon game can be heard live through FSU Softball.

The Tiger softball team leads both Florida State and Nicholls State in the all-time series. MU tops the Seminoles, 5-1, and stands ahead of the Colonels, 2-0.

Missouri enters the 2005 campaign having received votes in the weekly Feb. 8, ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. Led by Head Coach Ty Singleton, three seniors return to the lineup, while four freshmen are expected to make their debut in the Black and Gold against Nicholls State. The Tigers are coming off of a 29-26 season in which they made their second consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearance and finished third in the highly competitive Big 12 Conference and second at the ninth annual Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla.
