Mizzou Takes Two Wins on Final Day of Tiger Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - Mizzou finished the 3rd Annual Quality Inn Tiger Invitational with a 3-1 record after taking two wins on Saturday at the Hearnes Center.
The Tigers began Saturday by recording its first sweep of the year, a 30-23, 30-15, 30-18 win over Mississippi State. They then closed out the tournament with a four-game win over Idaho by scores of 30-27, 30-21, 29-31, 32-30.
In the first match, Missouri out-hit MSU .430 to .135. The .430 hitting percentage was the best for Mizzou this season.
Sophomore Nicole Wilson had 13 kills and hit .600 to lead the Tigers. Junior Lisa Boyd had eight kills and did not make an error in 10 attempts, for an .800 hitting percentage. Four Tigers hit over .400 and six had hitting percentages over .300.
The .135 hitting mark for Mississippi State included a -.059 mark in game two and the Bulldogs made 23 errors as compared to MU's nine.
Against Idaho, Missouri had five players in double figures in kills led by juniors Lisa Boyd and Shen Danru with 18 each. The Tigers also had four players with at least 10 digs led by a pair of freshman. Na Yang had 15 digs and Tatum Ailes had 13.
Hunter and Wilson each earned All-Tournament Team honors for their performances over the weekend.
In other action on day two of the Tiger Invitational, Creighton defeated Mississippi State 3-1, Idaho downed Arkansas State, 3-0 and Creighton knocked off Arkansas State 3-1.
Creighton took the title of the Tiger Invitational with a 3-0 record in the tournament.
Mizzou will open up the Big 12 Conference season on Wednesday with a trip to Lincoln, Neb. to face Nebraska at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska Coliseum.
