The Tigers battled windy conditions in today's win against Iowa State. Two weeks without match-play let the team rest up and come out strong. Mizzou evens up its conference record at 5-5 and 12-8 in overall play.
A doubles sweep for the Tigers set the tone for the rest of the match. Urska Juric and Katka Sevcikova blanked Iowa State's Sabrina Evers and Eve Soriano, winning 8-0. Freshman Yelena Olshanskaya and Erika Josbena followed suit with an 8-4 win. At No. 3 doubles, Hana Kraftova teamed up with Mary Barry to get an 8-2 win over Charlotte Liungkrantz and Jill Palen.
Big singles wins from Sevcikova and Lucie Ruskova closed out the sweep for Mizzou. Both won in tight matches at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively. Juric easily took out Iowa State's Evers, winning 6-1, 6-1. Sevcikova had a slow start against Iowa State's Soriano, but came back to win 6-7 (5), 6-2, 10-5. Kraftova, Olshanskaya, and Barry all came up with solid two-set wins. At No. 6, Ruskova got through a close first set to win 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Mizzou takes on rival Kansas at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Lawrence. This is the last match before the Big 12 Championships April 29 in Norman, Oklahoma.
