
Mizzou Knocks Off Kansas

Windy weather in Lawrence forced the dual indoors to courts in Topeka, Kansas. Despite the six-hour setback, the Tigers came up with a big 5-2 win in its last conference match of the season. 57th- ranked Mizzou finishes with a winning 6-5 record in conference play and 13-8 overall.
The Tigers started out strong and swept all three doubles matches to clinch the point. Urska Juric and Katka Sevcikova beat Kansas seniors Courtney and Kristen Steinbock 8-5 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2, Mizzou's freshmen Erika Josbena and Yelena Olshanskaya had a big win over Emily Haylock and Ashley Filberth, winning 8-5. Mary Barry and Hana Kraftova delivered an 8-2 win over Brittany Brown and Christine Skoda at No. 3.
In singles play, Mizzou faced tough competition against three Kansas seniors. At No. 1, Juric faced Kansas' Courtney Steinbock and fell 6-3, 6-1. Sevcikova challenged senior Haylock to three sets at No. 2, but lost 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2), 6-2. The Tigers came back and won the next four matches to give the team a win. Kraftova improved her singles record with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Christine Skoda. Freshman Olshanskaya took out Kansas senior Kristen Steinbock at No. 4, winning 6-4, 6-4. At No. 5, Barry pulled out a tough three-set win over Brittany Brown. Lucie Ruskova rounded out the Tiger victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Luiza Loureiro.
The Tigers head to the Big 12 Championships in Norman, Oklahoma at the end of the month.
