BUDAPEST, Hungary - Former Missouri Tiger and current undergraduate assistant track and field coach Christian Cantwell qualified Saturday for the IAAF World Indoor Championship Final in the men's shot put event. Sunday's finals will begin at 10:00 a.m., central time.
Cantwell's throw of 68 feet, 1? inch (20.77m) was good enough to place him second in his group, second to Ukraine's Yuriy Bilnog, ranked No. 1 in the world, by only two centimeters. On his final of three throws, Cantwell earned his qualifying mark. Any mark above 20.50m automatically qualified three of the eight finalists.
Cantwell was a seven-time all-American and a six-time Big 12 Conference Champion while at Missouri.
