Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri swimmers Matt North (Sr. - St. Charles, Ill.) and Chris McCrary (Sr. - St. Peters, Mo.), recently competed in the 2004 U.S. Open Swimming Championships, which were held Dec. 2-4 in San Antonio, Texas.
North had an outstanding meet, as he reached the finals of the prestigious meet in the 200-meter breaststroke. He finished third in the finals, with a time of 2:22.50 on Saturday (Dec. 4th) evening. North also competed in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter individual medley, and swam fast enough to reach the finals of the 100 breaststroke, but was disqualified. His time of 2:12.68 in the 200 IM was good for 14th place overall.
McCrary also swam in three events at the competition, and had his best performance in the 50-meter freestyle, as he finished 9th overall with a time of 24.03 seconds. He missed out by a hundredth of a second on being the 8th and final qualifier for the finals in the event. McCrary also swam in the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle events, placing 12th (57.45) and 16th (53.84), respectively.
