Tigers Spread Holiday Cheer

Columbia, Mo. - Rounding out the 2004 fall semester, the Mizzou gymnastics team had more on its mind than finishing up finals and heading home for the holiday break. In an ever continuing effort to make an impact in the community, the Tigers found true holiday spirit this year aiding a Mid-Missouri family.

Working with the Voluntary Action Center, the Tigers were paired with a needy family. Unanimously, team members and coaches split up to purchase holiday gifts for each family member.

"We had so much fun working on this project," Head Coach Rob Drass said. "We were able to get everything on our family's wish list. It was really great to see the girls get so excited about giving someone they will never meet a nice holiday."

After filling the family's wish list, the Tigers then got together to wrap each gift and return the bundle to the Voluntary Action Center where it will be delivered to their adopted family on Christmas Eve. While the Tigers don't know who their holiday family is, they are truly grateful for the chance to help.

"This was a great opportunity for the girls to give in a different way," Drass said. "I think it was a tremendous growing experience for these young ladies to realize how fortunate they really are and in return how much they can help those less fortunate."
