Columbia, Mo. - Freshman wrestler Raymond Jordan (165) took top honors at the Lindenwood Open Oct. 30, in St. Charles, Mo. The Tigers sent their entire 13-member freshmen class to the preseason tournament. Aside from a first place finish, three MU wrestlers finished the day in third place at their respective weight class with two Tigers finishing in fourth.
A native of New Bern, N.C., Jordan finished his first collegiate level open tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. Scoring a fall in his first match of the day, Jordan paired with Garrett Whitlaw of McKendree College and put his opponent on his back for a fall in 5:36. Jordan's three final matches resulted in decisions.
Marcus Hoehn, Seth Robison and Leremie Shaffer finished the day in third place of their respective weight class. Competing at 141 pounds, Hoehn held on for a 6-1 record, suffering his only loss to Bryan Odle (Bacone College) in a 5-3 decision. Robison was next up for the Tigers, wrestling at 149 pounds. With a 5-1 record on the day, Robison won his first match in the form of a 3-1 decision, with his second win coming in a fall in 3:25. Shaffer made his debut wrestling at 157 pounds. Also closing out the afternoon with a 5-1 record, Shaffer suffered a 5-4 loss in his second match, but rebounded with a fall in 45 seconds over teammate John Andrews.
Andrew Sherry (157) and Mike Gunselman (HWT) took fourth in their weight class with a 5-2 and 3-2 record, respectively. Sherry opened the tournament with back-to-back falls over his opponents. The first in 3:20 over Benjamin Strake (Lindenwood), with the second in 1:08 over Danny Podliski (McKendree College). Gunselman took all three of his victories with falls, the fastest clocked at 49 seconds on Alex Becerra (Lindenwood) in the consolation semifinals.
