San Antonio, Texas--Experiencing a little déjà vu facing Colorado in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament for the second straight year, the Mizzou Tigers dominated the game out shooting the Buffs 23-to-15 with a 12-to-6 shot on goal differential. Despite overpowering CU for the majority of the match however, the Tigers dropped the game in a 2-1 sudden death overtime heartbreaker.
Battling early in the game, keeping Colorado to just two shots in the first half despite giving up four cornerkicks to the Buffs, the Tigers successfully shutdown the CU scoring drive. Although the Tigers took 11 shots in the first half, CU goalkeeper Jessica Keller made four saves to keep the game scoreless through the first 45 minutes.
Opening the second half, Mizzou settled into a solid rhythm gunning the Colorado goal. The Tigers' attempts paid off 10 minutes into the period when Mizzou scored on a Colorado own goal. Midfielder Amber Swinehart led the charge taking a ball from the midfield through the CU defense to shoot from the top of the 18-yard box. The ball deflected off a Colorado defender trying to block and popped over Keller's reach into the net.
Ferociously trying to even the playing field, Colorado hit the Mizzou goal with 11 shots during the remainder of the period. The Tiger defensive staff was on task however keeping the Buffs to just two shots on goal. With just 15 seconds left in the game however, the tide turned when Colorado received a free kick at the top of the Missouri box. Jen Thais slammed the shot hitting the goal post where the ball was deflected back out. Daringly playing offense in the last few minutes, Keller recollected the ball and slated a pass to Tricia Regan who scored the game-tying goal with just eight seconds remaining in regulation.
Heading into overtime play, Colorado again capitalized on a Mizzou foul, this time earning a direct penalty kick. Midfielder Fran Munnelly scored the game-winning goal ending the Missouri season with a 9-10-1 record.
