Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri men's and women's swimming and diving teams continue their 2004-05 season this weekend in a major competition to be held in Evanston, Ill., as they will take part in the five-team TYR Invitational, hosted by Northwestern University.
Joining Mizzou and Northwestern in the three-day competition will be Pittsburgh, Southern Illinois and Division III national champion Kenyon College. The meet is set to take place at NU's Norris Aquatics Center, Nov. 19-21.
Head Coach Brian Hoffer's squad enters the meet with one individual and numerous relay teams ranked among the nation's top-50. On the men's side, Matt North is MU's top performer thus far, as he has top-50 times in three different events. North is currently ranked 39th nationally in the 200 Individual Medley (1:52.83), is 43rd in the 200 Breaststroke (2:05.47) and is 50th in the 100 Breaststroke (57.91).
Five different Tiger men's relay teams have times ranked among the top-50, led by the 800 Freestyle Relay team, which is ranked 20th overall, with a time of 7:07.06. Other ranked men's relay teams include the 400 Medley Relay team (27th - 3:23.85), the 200 Medley Relay team (34th - 1:34.78), the 400 Freestyle Relay team (36th - 3:07.10) and the 200 Freestyle Relay team (46th - 1:27.20).
On the women's side, no individuals are currently ranked in the nation's top-50, but the women, like the Tiger men, boast five relay teams that find themselves ranked heading into the weekend. Leading the way is the women's 400 Freestyle Relay squad, which is ranked 22nd nationally, with a time of 3:28.16. Other women's ranked relay teams for Mizzou include the 200 Medley Relay team (33rd - 1:46.50), the 400 Medley Relay team (33rd - 3:52.89), the 200 Freestyle Relay team (1:37.15) and the 800 Freestyle Relay team (37th - 7:53.29).
