Knaebel and Noonan Earn Student-Athlete Honors

Columbia, Mo. - Juniors Denise Knaebel and Matt Noonan were named this week's Lathrop & Gage Student Athletes of the Week. For their contributions to the golf and cross country team respectively, as well as academic success and community involvement, Knaebel and Noonan are the final recipients for the month of October.

A native of Moberly, Mo., Knaebel holds a 3.45 grade-point average in business management and volunteers her time at the Mentor/Mentee Luncheon for Columbia Public Schools Partner in Education (PIE), SAAC Canned Food Drive and Big 12 SAAC Holiday Angel Project. Knaebel holds the lowest single-season stroke average in school history and led the Tigers and Big 12 Conference in stroke average for the 2004 season with a 74.6. Competing in the fall season, Knaebel has recorded three top-10 finishes, finishing no lower than 17th and taking a second place finish at the Lady Northern Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich. Sept. 11-12.

An active member in the Ronald McDonald House Benefit, Noonan is a mechanical engineering major with a 3.22 grade-point average. Noonan is a native of Baldwin City, Kan., and was the first Tiger to cross the finish line in the men's 8K Notre Dame Invitational (Oct. 3) and NCAA Pre-National Race (Oct. 16).

The MU women's golf team will compete next at the Las Vegas Shootout Nov. 1-3 in Las Vegas, Nev., while the Tiger cross country team will travel to Topeka, Kan., for the ninth annual Big 12 Championships Saturday, Oct. 30, beginning at 10 a.m. Tickets for all of Missouri's upcoming sporting events are still available through the ticket office or by calling 1-800-CAT-PAWS.
