Black Team Takes Lead in Fall World Series

The Black squad put up 16 runs on 19 hits on its way to defeating the Gold team 16-8 in the first game of Mizzou Baseball's Fall World Series. The Black team scored four runs in the seventh inning and five more in the eighth on its way to victory.

Junior transfer Stephen Spaugh was 3-for-5, including a grand slam. He finished with six RBI for the Black team. All nine players in the starting lineup for Black had at least one hit. Seven had at least two hits and three had three-hit games.

Sophomore Max Scherzer pitched five innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out five to record the win.

Sophomore John McKee had a home run for the gold team and sophomore Dan Pietroburgo was 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Gold squad.

Game two of the series will be played at 6 p.m. on Monday at Taylor Stadium.
