Ben Askren's Weekly Journal

Oct. 11-17, 2004

This is the third week of our early season, before we get a "break" to build the room. On Monday afternoon, during live, I tweaked my knee again and had to stop wrestling. It was just a minor one, so I sat out Tuesday and just did cardio.

On Tuesday the team went really hard. They went 45 minutes of live, and since I was just doing cardio I got a chance to watch all of the guys. A lot of the new guys go really hard, especially Mike Chandler and Leremie Schaffer. If they keep working hard, I see really good things out of them in the future.

Wednesday morning I was back drilling. We went an hour and a half and it was mostly just new technique we worked on for the younger guys. Wednesday afternoon we got our lift and plyometrics in, everything went well. After lifting Coach Horton, Coach Kenny, and I started ripping down stuff to build the new room. It was a good time.

Thursday morning I did my individual drill with Sean Connole, who is a greyshirt. He can't workout with the team, but he comes in and does individual with a lot of the guys on the team. Then I spent all day helping out working out on the new room, which is looking good. Thursday afternoon I drilled with Raymond Jordan. We went for quite a while and then also wrestled live for quite a while. I wrestled live with Tyron and Raymond, both were feeling really tough. Friday morning was another run and lift. I got a PR in squat, other than that nothing exciting.

Friday afternoon I drilled with Chris Potter where we did a lot of live handfighting.

Saturday morning we did matches again. All the coaches and a lot of the wrestlers were gone to the Tiger Style Fall Clinics in STL and KC, but everything still ran smooth. After that my dad was in town helping with the new room, so we spent a lot of time doing that. The new room is going to be absolutely awesome. The season is coming around so stay tuned.
