Columbia, Mo. - Playing in their only fall softball scrimmage of 2004, the Missouri Tigers will challenge the Johnson County Cavaliers on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m., at University Field. The two teams will play three five inning games, showcasing the talents of both strong squads. Entrance to all three games is free.
Led by Head Coach Ty Singleton, Missouri returns for the upcoming season with 20 members on the team. Three seniors, starting pitcher Erin Kalka, shortstop Heather Kunkel and outfielder Ashley Hays are back for their final run at the Women's College World Series. Adding strength and depth to the team are seven newcomers, among them are transfers Janessa Roening, Jaci Schuyler and Alyson Tobyne. Freshmen Jen Bruck, Erica May, Amanda Renth and Sara Simons will surround the Tiger team at various positions around the horn.
The Tigers closed out their 2004 campaign with a 29-26 record, runner-up finish at the Big 12 Championship tournament and second consecutive appearance at an NCAA Regional Tournament. Several MU softball players were honored for their skills at the plate and in the field including Kalka to the All-Big 12 first team and recent graduate Morgan LeCluyse to the second team. For her efforts on the mound throughout the three-day Big 12 tournament, left-handed pitcher Erica Peterson was named to the All-Big 12 tournament team, as was LeCluyse. Strong in the classroom, the team was honored with three Academic All-Big 12 members.
