Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri Women's Golf squad finished in a two way tie for third place at the weather-shortened Jeannine McHaney Invitational on Sunday. The tourney, which was originally set to be a 54-hole tournament was cut down to 36 holes after torrential rain washed out yesterday's second round. Mizzou shot a final-round 303 and a two round total of 598, putting them in a two-way tie for third with opening round leader Southern Methodist. This is Mizzou's second straight third place finish of the fall.
"We didn't play our best golf today and came out a little flat, but I like the way we battled," Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "Our kids were far from satisfied with their effort today and we want to continue to improve heading into the Mason Rudolph (Oct. 1-3)."
The tourney, which was played at par-72, 6,375-yard Rawles Course in Lubbock, Texas, featured four teams separated by five strokes in the top four. Senior Maria Ohlsson recorded her second top five performance of the young season, shooting a 70 in the first round and a 75 in the second round to finish in fourth.
Junior Denise Knaebel also had a solid outing, moving from a tie for 19th after the first round into a tie for sixth after shooting a 73 in the final round and a 148 for the tourney. Mindy Bullard continued to play well, shooting rounds of 75 and 76 on the weekend and finishing in a tie for 17th. Freshman Madde Augustsson finished 36th and sophomore Stephanie Wavro checked in with a 69th place finish.
The Tigers will have a quick turnaround heading into their next tournament. They will leave Thursday for Franklin, Tenn., to compete in the Mason Rudolph Invitational, a three-day event that will feature several of the top teams in the country.
