COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri cross country teams will travel to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend for the Woody Greeno Nebraska Invitational to be held Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The No. 12 ranked women's team will run a combination of veterans and freshmen for their first six-kilometer race of the season. The men's squad will run their "B" team comprised of first-year freshmen and perennial middle-distance runners.
The University of Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan University will share roles as hosts. The Tigers' competition includes, from the Big 12 Conference, Kansas State and Nebraska, as well as Air Force, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State and Wichita State.
"For our women we are looking for a good challenge from Kansas State and some of the other teams in the meet," said Rebecaa Wilmes, Associate Head Cross Country Coach. "We're not going to run all of our best girls out there, resting some for later meets, but it will prove to be a good development meet for our women's team."
Expect junior Valerie Lauver to make her first appearance of the season at the meet as well as some of Missouri's harrier freshmen.
"Our men's team is going to look completely different, because, by in large, it's our "B" team," said Jared Wilmes, Head Cross Country Coach. "This gives some our guys, the one's who are middle-distance guys and our freshmen, a chance to get in a good setting and get a great race experience."
