Sept. 10, 2004
Columbia, Mo. - Hosting the annual Mizzou 4-Way, the Mizzou tennis team opened the 2004 fall season in strong fashion rallying a 16-0 combined record on day one.
St. Louis native Carolyn Kramer, a transfer from Virginia Tech, dispatched Murray State's Melissa Rippy (6-2, 6-2).
Freshman Lubica Nadasska easily beat Murray's Tami McQueen (6-2, 6-1) before teaming with senior Katka Sevcikova to beat Illinois State's Emily Sechaud and Caroline Simonovic 8-2.
Fellow freshman Charlotte Bellis had the day's most exciting win as she battled back to claim a come-from-behind third set tie breaking victory over Drake's Cheen Alkhatib.
"We've worked pretty hard in practice and things clicked for all of us today", said Mizzou senior Mary Barry. "These teams have all been NCAA teams the past two years, and tomorrow will be a lot harder. We need to be ready to play."
Competition continues all day Saturday and Sunday in the Green Tennis Center. Admission is free to the public. This is the only opportunity to see the Tigers compete this fall as the rest of their fall competition is out of town.
