ANN ARBOR, Mich. -
Missouri junior men's golfer Ben Scott (Lancashire, United Kingdom / St. Theodore's HS) is in a tie for seventh place after the first two rounds of the Radrick Farms Intercollegiate Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Scott began the day with an even-par 72 on the 6,979-yard layout at Radrick Farms before coming home with a 1-under 71. His first-day total of 1-under 143 puts him five strokes back of Joel Sjoholm of Georgia State.
The tournament marks the head coaching debut of Missouri mentor Mark Leroux. His team is in 12th place after firing four-player aggregate scores of 298 and 296 on Saturday. Purdue leads the field at even-par 576, a total of 18 strokes ahead of the Tigers. The host Wolverines are the last out of 14 teams, six strokes behind Mizzou.
"I really didn't know what to expect with a new team. Today was more about getting a feel for the team in a tournament setting," Leroux said. "It's always good to have all five guys shooting in the 70's. I'm happy with the way Ben Scott played; the other guys had their moments, too. I liked their demeanor on the golf course. They were well-behaved, which isn't always the case when things get frustrating. Overall, there were a lot of positives."
Among MU's other individuals, junior Chris Mabry (Leawood, Kan. / Bishop Miege HS) is in a tie for 28th after rounds of 73 and 75; sophomore Trent Twaddle (Maryville, Mo. / Maryville HS) is tied for 53rd after shooting 76 and 75; sophomore transfer Shawn Jasper (Marthasville, Mo. / Francis Howell HS / Newman Univ.) fired rounds of 77 and 75 and is tied for 58th; and sophomore Beau Crawford (La Plata, Mo. / Kirksville HS) is in a tie for 67th after identical 77s.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes beginning with an 8 a.m. EDT shotgun start.
