COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - COLUMBIA, Mo.-- The Mizzou volleyball team picked up a split of its two games on day one of the Quality Inn Tiger Invitational at the Hearnes Center. With the win in MU's second match of the day, Head Coach Susan Kreklow recorded her 600th career victory.
Missouri fell to Creighton in its first match of the day by a 3-1 (31-29, 16-30, 30-26, 30-28) score. The Tigers rebounded with a 3-1 (30-32, 30-24, 30-28, 30-21) win against Arkansas State in its second match of the day.
Despite have more kills, more digs and out-hitting Creighton, Mizzou was unable to hold off a tough Bluejay team.
Junior Shen Danru had a team-high 17 kills and added 13 digs and has recorded a double-double in each of the first three matches of the year. Freshman Tatum Ailes led Mizzou with 19 digs and sophomore Nicole Wilson had three aces, marking the second match this season in which she has had at least three aces.
Against Arkansas State, the Tigers out-hit the Lady Indians 80-53 led by Danru's 22 kills. She added 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Junior Lindsey Hunter had 63 assists and freshman Na Yang added a double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs.
With the win, Kreklow now has a career record of 600-149, which places her ninth in the nation in wins among active coaches.
In other matches on the first day of the Tiger Invitational, Mississippi State defeated Arkansas State 3-1 and Idaho took a five-game win over Mississippi State.
The Tiger Invitational will continue on Saturday with matches beginning at 9 a.m. at the Hearnes Center. Mizzou will play twice on Saturday, taking on Mississippi State at 2 p.m. and concluding the tournament against Idaho at 7 p.m.
