This weekend, 16 members of the 1954 Mizzou Baseball National Championship team will be back in Columbia to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of that magical season. The 1954 team, under Head Coach John "Hi" Simmons was 22-4 on the year and claimed the Big Seven Conference Championship with an 11-1 conference record. The Tigers were 5-1 at the College World Series. They had to come back from through the losers' bracket and defeat Rollins in the final game to claim the championship. In 1994, the 1954 team was inducted into the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame and last February it was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mo. The activities for this weekend will begin on Friday with a tour of the MU Sports Park and campus, a dinner in the Tiger Lounge and a reception at the Stoney Creek Inn. On Saturday, the team will have breakfast at the Stoney Creek Inn and attend the Varsity M Tailgate prior to the Mizzou football game against Arkansas State. The team will also be recognized on the field during the game.
