More than 750 fans got their first look at the 2004 Mizzou Volleyball team with the annual Black and Gold Match on Wednesday night at the Hearnes Center. The Gold team defeated the Black team two games to one in the abbreviated match. After the Black squad took the opening game of the match by a 20-14 score, the Gold team responded by taking the next two games by scores for 20-15 and 20-18 for the match victory. Junior Shen Danru had 12 kills to lead the gold team, while the Gold setter, junior Lindsey Hunter, had 26 assists on the night. Lindsey Noll and Lisa Boyd each had 10 kills and freshman Na Yang had nine kills for the Gold team. Prior to the scrimmage, more than 150 youth took part in a free volleyball clinic conducted by the MU volleyball players. The Tigers instructed the youngsters on all facets of the game and the clinic allowed the participants to get up-close and personal with the Mizzou volleyball team. Missouri will open up its regular season on Sept. 3 against Wisconsin at the Badger Challenge in Madison, Wis. The first home action for the Tigers will be in the 3rd Annual Quality Inn Tiger Invitational on Sept. 10-11.
