Columbia, Mo. -Missouri wrestler Kenny Burleson was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Men's At-Large Team-University Division as announced on Thursday. One of only 10 athletes selected to the team, Burleson is one of three wrestlers named to the team and will advance to the national CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's At-Large team ballot.
Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from 37 candidates, 19 different institutions and seven sports were represented on the ballot.
Burleson embodied the ideal of a student athlete, carrying a 3.49 grade-point average while majoring in Business. Wrestling at 157 pounds, Burleson was named a 2004 All-American for his seventh place finish at the NCAA Division I Championships and took the Big 12 Championship title at his weight on March 6. Burleson is fourth on the Missouri career wins chart with 119 wins.
This marks the first time Burleson has been selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Men's At-Large Team but is far from his first academic honor. All together, Burleson is a four-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection and three time National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic member.
Burleson is one of three Big 12 student-athletes selected for the team and one of seven seniors.
