For the second straight week a Mizzou pitcher has been named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week with senior Mark Alexander taking this week's honor, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Last week, junior Garrett Broshuis earned the award.
Alexander appeared in all three of the Tigers' games against Texas Tech last weekend in Lubbock, Texas and recorded a win and a save in the series. On the weekend, he struck out six, did not allow a walk, gave up four hits and faced 15 batters without allowing a run.
On Saturday, he struck out five of the nine batters he faced in 2.3 innings, taking the victory. Then in Sunday's series finale, he retired the Red Raiders in order in the ninth to earn his Big 12 Conference leading eighth save of the season.
Alexander has made an appearance in seven of Mizzou's last 10 games, recording three saves and not allowing a run during that stretch.
For the season, he has a 1.80 ERA with a 2-0 record. His eight saves put him in a tie for third place for most saves in a season at Missouri.
Mizzou (29-18-1, 8-12) took victories in two of the three games against Texas Tech last weekend. The Tigers will travel to Lawrence, Kan. this weekend for a three-game series with Kansas. Game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
